Human rights activist Harsh Mander’s office & home raided by Indian ED

New Delhi: India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday conducted a raid on the office and home of prominent human rights activist and former officer of Indian Administrative Service, Harsh Mander, in New Delhi.

The raid came hours after Mander and his wife left for Germany for a nine-month fellowship offered by Robert Bosch Academy in Berlin.

The ED officials raided his home in Vasant Kunj, his Centre for Equity Studies office, and the children’s home Mander runs in Mehrauli. Reportedly no one was at home when the ED officials reached there. His daughter who also lives in Delhi later arrived.

According to Indian media, the ED conducted a raid after Delhi police filed an FIR against member of the Sonia Gandhi-led National Advisory Council (NAC) during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime in connection with a money laundering case.

Mander also runs a civil society initiative, Karwan-e-Mohabbat, which he started in 2017 to combat communal violence.Shabnam Hashmi, a civil society activist, has condemned the police raid. Web Desk
