Muslim student refuses to go to university due to hijab ban in India

London:  Almas, a Muslim student from India who wears a hijab, said she would rather not go to university than go without a hijab, reported NDTV Reality Check.

She is one of the students who protested in court against the government’s hijab ban by the Karnataka High Court.

The court banned the wearing of the hijab in classrooms because it states that the wearing of the hijab is not “part of an essential religious practice in the Islamic faith.”

In the video, Almas cited various chapters of the Holy Quran to show that wearing the hijab is a compulsion in Islam for women. When asked how she will deal with problems in the classroom now that the hijab is outlawed, she said that she, and many like her, will stop going to university.

“The court is denying us our constitutional right,” he said.

Almas added that before COVID, Muslim girls wearing hijab were treated unfairly in classes. However, before students could oppose the treatment, COVID-19 caused schools to close. This issue has come up again since schools reopened after COVID, the young student said. Freshgooglenews.com
