OIC SG asks India to reverse illegal actions against Kashmiris

Islamabad: Secretary General, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha reiterated the Muslim world representative body’s call on the Indian government to reverse all the illegal and unilateral actions it has taken in the occupied Jammu and Kashmir, as he arrived on a three-day visit to Pakistan on Saturday.

It is pertinent to mention that the 48th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers held in Islamabad on 22-23rd March 2022, during which OIC adopted joint action plan on Kashmir issue.

Under this plan, the OIC countries agreed to raise the Kashmir issue in their bilateral engagements with India and underscore respect for the fundamental human rights of the Kashmiri people, as well as lend support to monitor human rights violations in the Indian Administered Kashmir. On 16 May 2022, OIC General Secretariat expressed deep concern over India’s attempts to redraw the electoral boundaries of the Indian Administered Kashmir altering the demographic structure of the territory and violating the rights of the Kashmiri people.

OIC in a strong worded statement condemned the India illegal move in Indian Administered Kashmir which is internationally accepted disputed territory.

The “delimitation exercise are in direct contravention of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and international law, including the 4th Geneva Convention. Beside this, on the side-lines of the 77th UNGA session a New York, OIC Contact Group meeting was held on Kashmir.

The grass human rights abuse in Indian Administered Kashmir were highlighted and OIC stress to continue its support for the Kashmir cause.
