Mamata Banerjee attacked in Nandigram, alleges ‘conspiracy’

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee alleged that she was ‘attacked’ by 4-5 men who manhandled during the election campaign in Nandigram on Wednesday. The alleged incident happened at around 6:15 pm when Banerjee was outside a temple in the Reyapara area.

Later, the TMC supremo was admitted to SKMM hospital in Kolkata.

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar and Trinamool MP and Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee visited the hospital to enquire about her health.

“Democratic process can blossom only with peace and harmony prevailing all around and all contributing according to rule of law and constitution. All need to ensure healthy environment and promote wholesome practices,” Dhankar tweeted.

The Bengal chief minister underwent X-ray imaging and an MRI was also conducted at the Bangur Institute of Neurosciences.

“X-ray has been conducted on the chief minister’s left leg. We also wanted to conduct an MRI. After calculating the degree of her injury, the next step of treatment will be decided,” a doctor was quoted by PTI as saying.

TMC supporters protest across Bengal

Trinamool protested against the alleged attack on Banerjee at several places, including Sovabazar, Chetla and Bally. TMC supporters also held protests at Asansol Jalpaiguri, North 24 Parganas, Bankura and Paschim Medinipur.

“We will continue the protests as our leader was mercilessly attacked in Nandigram. Until now, TMC supporters were being attacked, but today they dared to attack the chief minister,” a protestor said.

While speaking to the media, the TMC supremo, who was in Nandigram to file her nomination papers for the West Bengal Elections 2021, alleged that she was injured when some unidentified people tried to forcefully close the door of her car.

“I was standing outside my car with the door open. I was praying from there on seeing a temple. Few people came around my car and pushed the door. The door hit my leg,” she said. Banerjee alleged ‘conspiracy’, saying that no police personnel were present at the spot.

“Some people deliberately did it. Of course, it is a conspiracy. There were no local policemen around me, neither the district police superintendent was present at the spot,” Banerjee alleged.

The TMC chief said that her leg was swollen and she was feeling feverish. She further claimed that she was having chest pain as well.Timesnownews.com
